“Children of today are the leaders of tomorrow and education is a very important weapon to prepare children for their future roles as leaders of the community.” This quote by the late South African President Nelson Mandela is a reminder to us all at a time when the schooling of millions of children globally has been interrupted.
Aptly, the theme of this year’s United Nations International Day of Education is ‘Recover and Revitalise Education for the COVID-19 generation’. Not only has educational attainments in the last decades been scaled back drastically, but scores of children are also falling behind due to a lack of access to digital tools and enrichment resources.
This is why, starting January 24, AirAsia Foundation is undertaking a two-week campaign to support the donation of children’s books to SHELTER Home, a welfare organisation that helps abused, abandoned, neglected or at-risk children.
To join the drive, donors can select the number of books they would like to donate from DESTINATION GOOD and make an online purchase. All books will be selected from children’s titles by Malaysian writers and illustrators. Together, we hope to raise a minimum of 100 new books to add to the libraries of the SHELTER Home centres.
